The analysis of the environmental conditions found by the initial testing is complicated as the results are varied and numerous. The combinations of conditions that give raise to the colonisation by Legionella bacteria are complex but are often found within commercial water systems. It is widely understood in the bacteriological world that up to 50% of all western buildings will have a population of Legionella bacteria. Finding those that pose a significant risk of allowing bacterial populations to increase into disease causing colonies is a specialised task.
The environmental testing may be followed by bacterial incubation on Dip Slides to assess the level of bacterial growth within the system. Levels of colonisation above 1 x 10^4 may require further sampling and Laboratory analysis by an approved testing laboratory.
