Health & Safety Arrangements Every organisation has a Duty to formally (in writing ) put in place its “Arrangements” for how its needs and obligations related to Health and Safety, will be actually managed and implemented. Thus health & safety “Arrangements” are a specific and essential health and safety requirement and should be recognised as such.
![]() This requires each business to understand and implement all the requirements of all the current specific and or relevant Regulations, Approved Code of Practice (ACOP’s) Health & Safety Guidance, Good practice, Trade Body advice etc.
![]() This complex task cannot easily be abbreviated without risking failing to address the requirements and similarly despite there being many (potentially conflicting) sources of information each “Arrangement” must both stand alone (be effective) and also work with all other “Arrangements”. It is important that there are no omissions and that all aspects of health, safety and welfare are adequately and comprehensively addressed. An organisations collective group of “Arrangements” is what is most commonly referred to as its Health and Safety Manual. Note: Each “Arrangement” should be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that it is still effective and to consider the effect that any / all other legislative changes may have had upon its continued effectiveness. Given the number (and extent of) the many Regulations, ACOP’s, guides etc Many clients ask PIRA to produce and review their Arrangements “as ignorance of the many requirements is no defence” and this complex task needs to be undertaken by those with the time, experience, aptitude (competence) to undertake this work in a holistic manner to meet the businesses needs. Priority should be given to those hazards and risks which are the most serious and harmful. It should also include such things as:
etc..
