Implementing OHSAS 18001 With many companies looking to continuously improve their Health and Safety Management and to audit the effectiveness of their systems and performance there has been an increasing need to establish good practice and develop baselines for comparison.
 The Health and Safety Executive’s published guidance HSG 65 has long provided a template for smaller business to work towards and PIRA often recommends this to its smaller clients. Equally PIRA has experience of clients working towards the highly prized International Safety Rating System (ISRS). With many customers ISO 9000 (Quality Systems Management (PIRA is an ISO 9001 accredited company) accredited and an increasing number working towards EN 14001 there is an increasing need to measure safety performance to satisfy clients and insurers alike. ISO BSEN 18001/2 are current draft standards that are likely to be formally adopted during 2006 and provide the framework for new levels of compliance and measured management.
